Web Standards

the breakdown

It would be fair to say that the web has been one hell of a mess of un-regulated content. Anyone can claim to make great websites and charge an arm and a leg for them, when in fact the quality of the product they sell is quite sub standard.

It is a very hard industry for the general consumer to get their head around. Who do you trust? how do you know what the web company says is true...you just take their word for it right?

As professionals in the web industry, we have at least one way to differentiate ourselves from the people selling sub standard websites to unsuspecting customers, and that is by creating sites that conform to the W3C Recommendations. There are many benefits for the industry and the public in general by doing this.

who are W3C

Tim Berners-Lee, who invented the World Wide Web in 1989, has served as the W3C Director since W3C was founded, in 1994. The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is an international consortium where Member organizations, a full-time staff, and the public work together to develop Web standards.

W3C's mission is: To lead the World Wide Web to its full potential by developing protocols and guidelines that ensure long-term growth for the Web. You can read more about W3C here.

accessibility

It is already required for all Government websites to be Accessible for users with disabilities. Accessibility Standards are also very important for the general and business websites sector.

As a website owner it is likely that you were not aware of these kind of standards, and so it is important that when choosing your web design company, that they can make your website to this level - if not find a company who can, Not only for you and your website visitors benefit, but for the good of the whole web industry at large.
